SUNLIGHT JEWEL

The Sunlight Jewel (IMO: 9041095, Port of registry: Singapore, Ex. Front Tarim) is a crude oil tanker of 328 metres long, 57 metres wide, a deadweight tonnage of 300,364 and a cargo capacity 2,080,140 barrels of oil. She was recently converted at CSIC Qingdao Beihai Ship Repair facility into a double hull, double bottom vessel to comply with the latest regulations in most international ports. The vessel is owned by Craft Maritime, Panama and managed by Tanker Pacific management, Singapore.

The Sunlight Jewel is expected to arrive later this evening at the MOT Terminal, Rotterdam with the last port of call at Sidi Kerir Terminal.

ESTELLE MAERSK

The Estelle Maersk (IMO: 9321495, Port of Registry: Hellerup, Denmark) is, together with its sisters (amongst which are the 'Emma Maersk' and 'Eleonora Maersk'), the largest containership ever with a total teu capacity 11,000 teu (of which 1,000 forty foot reefer containers) according to the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. Rumours are that a total capacity of 13,500 teu is also possible. This capacity is possible by stacking the containers in 22 rows wide. The vessel is 397 meters long, 56 meters wide, has a depth of 30 meters and a deadweigth of 156,907 tons. Amazingly, all this size and capacity requires a crew of only 13. The specially designed Wärtsilä diesel engine delivers 80,000 kW. A waste heat recovery system is installed to optimise the use of the energy produced, so that the engine can deliver up to 90,000 kW. The vessels in this series will also establish new standards for safety and environmental responsibility. Environmentally-safe silicone paint, for example, is used on the hull, below the water line, reducing water resistance, and thereby fuel consumption, by 1,200 tons per year. The ship was built by Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd in 2006.

The Estelle Maersk is scheduled to arrive later this evening at the APM terminal, Rotterdam from Algeciras. The vessel will then set sail for Bremerhaven on the APM AE1 line. She will return within about 7 weeks to Rotterdam.

RAMBIZ

The Rambiz(IMO: 9136199, Port of registry: Bruges, Belgium) is a crane vessel equipped with two cranes that can both reach to a lift height of 90 meters. The vessel is suitable for platform installation and removal, wreckage removal and other special heavy lifting tasks and is fully certified for ocean passage with the cranes fully erected. The cranes can be loaded independent or simultaneous with a maximum load capacity of 3300 tons.
The platform of the vessel is 85 meters long, 44 meters wide, is propelled by 4 units of a total of 2200 kW and can accomodate up to 28 persons. The ship is owned by the Belgium based consortium of Herbosch-Kiere, Decloedt NV and Jan de Nul NV, and managed by Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors. The Rambiz has entered the port of Rotterdam this morning accompanied by the tug Stevns Icecap (IMO: 9364368, Flag: Denmark). She has berthed at the Waalhaven.

BERGE STAHL

Today's SOTD is the Berge Stahl (IMO:8420804, Port of registry: Stavanger, Norway) which is the largest bulk carrier currently sailing with its deadweight of 364,767 tons. The vessel is owned by Bergesen Worldwide Shipping, was built in 1992 by Hyundai Heavy Ind. Co. Ltd. Ulsan, Korea, is 343 meters long, 65 meters wide, ore carrier has a draught of 23 meters, has 7 holds and hatches and was built . She transports iron ore from the 'Companhia Vale do Rio Doce' mines in the eastern part of the Amazone, Brasil to Rotterdam about 9 or 10 times a year. From Rotterdam the iron ore is transported in barges to the steel mills of ThyssenKrupp and Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann in Germany. The Berge Stahl has arrived this morning at the EECV terminal, Rotterdam from Ponta da Madeira, Brasil. Rotterdam and Ponta da Madeira are the only two ports in the world which are deep enough to receive the vessel.

COSCO CHINA

Today's SotD is the Cosco China (IMO: 9305465, Port of Registry: Monrovia, Liberia), which is a container vessel of 335 meters long, 43 meters wide, and a teu capacity of 8,200. She is currently sailing for E.R. Schiffahrt Germany on the China - Europe loop.

The Cosco China has arrived this morning at the ECT Delta Terminal, Rotterdam. She is expected to depart tomorrow with destination Felixstowe and is scheduled to return to Rotterdam within two months.

GERD MAERSK

Although she's not as large as the new PS-class Maersk vessels, the Gerd Maersk (IMO: 9320245, Port of registry: Dragor, Denmark) is still one of the largest containerships owned by Maersk with its length of 367 meters, width of 43 meters and teu capacity of up to 9000. The vessel was built in 2005 by Odense Steel Shipyard, Denmark.

The Gerd Maersk is due to arrive this afternoon at the APM terminal, Rotterdam coming in from Bremerhaven, Germany. After Rotterdam the vessel will set sail for Felixstowe and from there she will sail towards the Far East. The vessel will return in Rotterdam within two months.

GJERTRUD MAERSK

The Gjertrud Maersk (IMO: 9197894, Port of Registry: Ringkøbing, Denmark) is a 367 meters long, 43 meters wide container vessel, capable of transporting up to 10,000 teu. The Gjertrud Maersk was delivered in December 2005 by Odense Steel Shipyard, Denmark and was then, together with its sisters, Gudrun Maersk, Gerd Maersk, Grete Maersk, Gunvor Maersk and Georg Maersk, the largest container vessel sailing. Since a few months the Emma Maersk, together with its sisters Estelle Maersk and Eleonora Maersk have taken over the leadership.

The Gjrertrud Maersk is currently sailing on the Japan/China - Europe line and has entered the port of Rotterdam this morning from Bremerhaven. The next destination of the Gjertrud Maersk will be Algeciras, Spain. From there she will set sail for the Suez Canal and South-Eastern Asia. The Gjertrud Maersk is scheduled to return to Rotterdam within two months.

ANNA MAERSK

The Anna Maersk (IMO:9260421, Port of Registry: Aabenraa, Denmark) is a Post-Panamax, Series S, container vessel owned by A.P. Møller-Maersk. The vessel was built in 2003 by Odense Steel Shipyard, Denmark as one of 29 almost identical ships. She is 352 metres long, 43 metres wide, has a maximum draught of 15 metres and a maximum official teu capacity of 6,600 but believed to carry a maximum of up to 10,000 teu.

The Anna Maersk is scheduled to arriv this evening at the APM terminal, Rotterdam from Southampton. Her next port of call will be Gothenburg. The Albert Maersk is scheduled to return to Rotterdam in two months.

XIN LOS ANGELES

About one year ago the Xin Los Angeles was the largest containervessel around. But since the launching of the Emma Maersk, the vessel is 'just' one of the bigger ones. The Xin Los Angeles is 336.7 metres long, 45.6 metres wide and has a maximum draught of 15 metres. She can carry a maximum of 18 rows of containers by eight tiers on the weather deck and 16 rows by 10 tiers in the holds which gives the vessel a total capacity of 9,600 teu. The ship is propelled by an MAN B&W 12K98MC-C Mk6 engine, with a power of 68,520 kW. During sea trials the ship achieved a ballast service speed of 25.4 knots. The CSCL Pusan and Xin Shanghai are her sistervessels.

The Xin Los Angeles has entered the port of Rotterdam this morning and is currently berthed at the ECT terminal, Rotterdam.

HEDWIG OLDENDORFF

Today's Ship of the Day is the Hedwig Oldendorff (IMO: 8015697), which is scheduled to arrive later this evening from Seven Islands, Canada at the EECV terminal , Rotterdam for discharging iron ore.

This Liberian flagged bulk carrier was built in 1984 by Hyundai Heavy Industreis, has a deadweight of about 150.000 tons and contains 9 holds and hatches. The ship is 281 meters long, 53 meters wide and has a maximum draught of 15 meters. She is owned by Oldendorff Carriers Gmbh & Co, Germany.

AL TAHREER

Today's SOTD is the Al Tahreer (flag: Kuwait, IMO: 9016868). The Al Tahreer is a crude oil tanker with a deadweight of 284.500 tons, is 322 meters long, 56 meters wide and has a draught of 21.6 meters. The vessel was built in 1992 by Hyundai Shipbuilding & Heavy Ind. Ltd. in Korea and has 12 different cargo tanks: 3 port, 6 centre and 3 starboard tanks. The vessel is owned by Kuwait Oil Tanker Co. S.A.K. The Tahreer's sister vessel are: Al Awdah, Al Samidoon and Al Shuhada.

The Al Tahreer is scheduled to arrive later today at the MOT Terminal Rotterdam from Sidi Kerir Terminal.

ARTHUR MAERSK

Today's SOTD is the Arthur Maersk (IMO:9260445, Port of Registry: Ronne, Denmark). This 'Series S' container vessel was built in 2003 by Hyundai Heavy Industries, Korea and can carry a total number of containers of 9000. The ship is 352 meters long, 43 meters wide, has a deadweight tonnage of 109.000 and is currently sailing on the China - Europe route.

The Arthur Maersk is scheduled to arrive this evening at the APM Terminal, Rotterdam with a last port of call at Southampton.
