OASIS OF THE SEAS

The Oasis of the Seas (IMO: 9383936, Port of Registry: Nassau, Bahama's) is a cruise ship owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises and the first of the four vessels from the Oasis-class. The Allure of the Seas is her sistervessel. A third vessel is currently being built at Saint-Nazaire, France and a fourth vessel has been recently ordered. With a length of 360 meters, width of 60.5 meters and a gross tonnage of 225,282 the Oasis of the Seas is by far the largest cruise ship in the world. The vessel has 16 passenger decks and can accomodate a total of 6,360 guests with a crew of 2,394. On board you can find (amongs others): an aquatheater, 18,000 sq ft casino, water park, 3d movie theater, two FlowRider surf simulators, an ice-skating rink, etc...etc... The Oasis of the Seas was delivered in 2009 by STX Europe, Turku, Finland. She is propelled by 8 Wärtsilä V12 engine with 17,500 HP each, which give the vessel a cruising speed of 22 knots.

The Oasis of the Seas is expected to arrive later tonight at the cruise terminal at the Holland Amerikakade, which was adjusted recently for receiving such large cruise vessels. Afterwards she will move to Keppel Verolme shipyards for maintenance works during two weeks.

CROWN PRINCESS

Crown PrincessCruise ship Crown Princess is one of the largest Princess ships, with room for 3,080 passengers. She was built in 2006 at Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani, Trieste, Italy and is, together with sisterships Emerald Princess and Ruby Princess, one of the largest ships in the Princess fleet. She offers nearly 900 balcony staterooms providing as well as several bars and restaurants, a casino, theatre, swimming pool, etc. etc. She is 288 meters long and 36 meters wide and has a gross tonnage of 113,561. The Crown Princess was involved in an incident in 2006 in US waters which caused a severe tilting of the ship and injuries.

The Crown Princess arrived at the port of Rotterdam this morning and will leave the cruiseterminal tonight.

MS ROTTERDAM

MS RotterdamToday's Ship of the Day is the ms Rotterdam (IMO: 9122552, Port of registry: Rotterdam), the flagship of the Holland America Line which has a capacity of 1,316 passengers. She is already the sixth ship of the HAL to bear the name. The Rotterdam has 658 rooms of which there are 4 penthouse suites, 36 normal suites, 120 mini suites, 381 outside staterooms and 117 inside staterooms. Furthermore there are several restaurants, bars, a theather, a kids club, a library, a casino and a health spa on board. On board ms Rotterdam you will find exact replicas of the huge clay army discovered buried in Xian, China. Other art pieces include remarkable clocks and time pieces, contemporary art by recognized artists, and antiques that represent the rich seafaring heritage of Holland America Line. A highlight of the tour is a beautiful 18th-century ship model carved from bone. This in 1997 in Italy built vessel is 238 meters long, 32 meters wide and has a gross tonnage of almost 60.000.

The ms Rotterdam arrived this morning at the Holland Amerikakade from Kiel. She will leave the port this afternoon for a 7 day cruise visiting Oslo, Kristiansand, Stavanger and Flam, Norway before returning to Rotterdam.

EMERALD PRINCESS

Emerald PrincessCruise Ship Emerald Princess (IMO: 9333151, Port of Registry: Hamilton, Bermuda) is one of the cruise ships visiting Rotterdam this season. The vessel is owned by Princess Cruises which is one of the best-known names in cruising. Princess Cruises first set sail in 1965 with a single ship cruising to Mexico. Today, the line has grown to become the third largest cruise line in the world. The Emerald Princess was built in 2007 and is one of the largest ships in the Princess fleet. She offers nearly 900 balcony staterooms providing as well as several bars and restaurants, a casino, theatre, swimming pool, etc. etc. She is 288 meters long and 36 meters wide and has a gross tonnage of 113,561.

The Emerald Princess arrived at the Holland Amerikakade, Rotterdam this morning and will leave the cruiseterminal around 18.00 this evening.

Furthermore there are several restaurants, bars, a theather, a kids club, a library, a casino and a health spa on board. The ms Rotterdam arrived this morning at the Holland Amerikakade from Lisbon for one of her twenty visits to Rotterdam this season. She will leave the port this afternoon for a 17 day cruise visiting Madeira, the Canary Islands, Casablanca, Cadiz and Lisbon.

QUEEN MARY 2

Queen Mary 2Today's Ship of the Day is the Queen Mary 2, one of the most magnificent ocean liners ever built. Entered service in January 2004, she combines over 165 years of tradition with modern innovations hardly dreamed of only a few years ago. The QM2, owned by Cunard Line, is 345 meters long, 41 meters wide and a total height from keel to funnel of almost 72 meters. Her 157,000 horsepower, environmentally friendly, gas turbine/diesel electric plant provides power to four pods of 21.5 MW each giving the vessel a maximum speed of 28.5 knots. The Queen Mary 2 has a capacity for 2,592 guests and has all kinds of public rooms such as an art gallery, ballroom, swimming pools, top boutiques and brands such as Harrods, H. Stern's, Chopard and Hermes, etc., etc., etc. all located on 13 decks.

The Queen Mary 2 entered the port of Rotterdam early this morning from Southampton and is now located at the Holland Amerikakade. She is scheduled to depart at 18:00 this afternoon with destination Zeebrugge, Le Havre and Southampton. From Southampton the QM2 will make a roundtrip transatlantic crossings to New York, back to Southampton.

AKADEMIK SERGEY VAVILOV

AKADEMIK SERGEY VAVILOV
The Akademik Sergey Vavilov (IMO: 8507729, Port of Registry: Kaliningrad, Russia) is a research vessel. The vessel was delivered on February 12, 1988 in Rauma, Finland for the Soviet Union and started operations as a research vessel of Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the USSR Academy of Science (Russian Academy of Science since 1991) in the USSR on March 20, 1989 and prior to November 7, 1999 completed five research cruises into Norwegian Sea, North Atlantic Ocean and South Atlantic Ocean. Nowadays the vessel serves as a cruise ship specializing in Polar cruises and is widely recognized as the best expedition-style cruise vessel operating in Polar waters. She's a well-equipped, ice-rated ship capable of carrying up to 118 passengers, although normally carrying no more than 110 for extra comfort. The Akademik Sergey Vavilov is 117 meters long and 18 meters wide with a gross tonnage of 6,231. She is powered by two diesel engine made by Russkiy Diesel Firm. Each main engine delivers 7000 bhp at 520rpm which gives the vessel an operating speed of 13.5 knots.

The Akademik Sergey Vavilov arrived this morning from Reykjavik at the Waalhaven where her sistership Akademik Ioffe already arrived yesterday.

RyndamHolland America Line's cruise ship Ryndam (IMO: 8919269, Port of Registry: Rotterdam) has been enhanced in 2004 and offers "an onboard experience defined by spacious comfort, and the latest Signature of Excellence features and amenities". Recent enhancements include remodeled public spaces, updated lounges and an exciting new entertainment destination called Mix featuring three distinctly themed bars. The Ryndam is 220 meters long and 31 meters wide and offers accomodation to 1,260 passengers and 580 crew members. She was built in 1994 at Fincantieri shipyard, Venice. AIDABLU

AIDABluCruise ship AIDABlu (IMO: 9398888, Port of Registry: Genoa, Italy) is a Sphinx class cruise ship, operated by the German cruise line, AIDA Cruises. The vessel was built at Meyer Werft, Germany and delivered in February 2010. She provides accomodation to 2,050 passengers in 1096 cabins (374 are on the inside and 722 on the outside) and offers six restaurants, a wellness area and a theatre. It also has the first brewery installed on a cruise ship, where the beer served in the ship are brewed. Take a look at AIDA Kreuzfahrten for more info.

The AIDABlu arrived last night at Rotterdam from Antwerp and will leave tomorrow morning with destination Hamburg.

QUEEN ELIZABETH

Queen Elizabeth seen in TallinnThe Queen Elizabeth (IMO: 9477438, Port of Registry: Southampton) is a Signature class cruise ship operated by Cunard Line. The vessel joined Cunard's fleet in October 2010 (officially named by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Southampton) and the second largest ship in the fleet after the Queen Mary 2. With her length of 294 meters and breadth of 36 meters, the vessel can accomodate 2,068 passengers and a crew of 996. Although having an almost identical interior arrangement to the Queen Victoria, the decor is very different. The ship is a tribute to the two previous Queen Elizabeths: the original Queen Elizabeth and the QE2.

The Queen Elizabeth arrived this morning at Rotterdam from Zeebrugge and will depart this evening.

CMA CGM MEDEA

CMA CGM Medea
The CMA CGM Medea (IMO: 9299800, Port of Registry: Marseille) is an in 2006, by Hyundai Heavy Industries built, Post-Panamax container vessel, capable of transporting up to 9,400 teu. She is 349 metres long, almost 43 metres wide, has a maximum draught of about 15 metres and a deadweight tonnage of 107,000. The CMA CGM Medea also provides passenger accomodation with five passenger cabins. On board, guests can book a single or double room and enjoy the ship’s amenities including a lounge, gymnasium, pool and library along with meals at the captain’s table. Travelers seeking an uncommon cruise adventure between Asia and Europe need look no further. The CMA CGM Medea is the fourth of eight super mega container vessels. She is deployed in CMA-CGM's Asia-European (FAL3) service. Her sisters are: CMA CGM Fidelio, Rigoletto and Norma.

The CMA CGM Medea is sarrived at the Port of Rotterdam this morning and is currently berthed at the ECT Delta Terminal. She is scheduled to depart later tonight.
