EUGEN MAERSK

Eugen MaerskThe Eugen Maersk (IMO: 9321550, Port of Registry: Randers, Denmark) is, together with her sisters (amongst others) 'Emma Maersk', 'Estelle Maersk', 'Evelyn Maersk' and 'Ebba Maersk', one of the larger containerships in dimensions, with a total teu capacity 11,000 teu (of which 1,000 forty foot reefer containers) according to the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. A total capacity of 13,500 teu is also possible when containers are not fully loaded. This capacity is possible by stacking the containers in 22 rows wide. Maersk calculates the teu capacity with loaded containers. The vessel is 397 meters long, 56 meters wide, has a depth of 30 meters and a deadweigth of 156,907 tons. Amazingly, all this size and capacity requires a crew of only 13. The specially designed Wärtsilä diesel engine delivers 80,000 kW. A waste heat recovery system is installed to optimize the use of the energy produced, so that the engine can deliver up to 90,000 kW. The vessels in this series have established new standards for safety and environmental responsibility. The ship was delivered by Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd in 2008 as the seventh and last ship in Maersk's PS-class.
The Eugen Maersk arrived this morning at the APM terminal, Rotterdam from Suez.

MAERSK ESSEN

The Maersk Essen was the first of nine newbuildings in this class, amongst which are the Maersk Edinburgh, Maersk Edmonton and Maersk Eindhoven. The vessel is 366 meters long and 48 meters wide and has a deadweight of 141,000 tonnes. She has a maximum capacity of 13,092 teu and is propelled by a Hyundai-Wärtsilä 12RT-flex 96C engine delivering a maximum power of 68,640 kW. The vessel is deployed in Maersk's AE-2 loop. More recently Maersk has also built 18,720 TEU ships in the Triple-E class, such as Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller.

This capacity is possible by stacking the containers in 22 rows wide. The vessel is 397 meters long, 56 meters wide, has a depth of 30 meters and a deadweight of 156,907 tons. MAERSK MC-KINNEY MØLLER

Today we have worlds largest containership Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller (IMO: 9619907, Port of Registry: Hellerup, Denmark) featuring as the ship of the day. Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller is the lead ship of Maersk's new Triple E class of container vessels. She has a length of 399 meters, width of 59 meters and a draught of 16 meter. The vessel has the largest cargo capacity in TEU (18,720) of any ship yet constructed. She was constructed for Maersk by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), South Korea, launched in February 2013 and entered service in July 2013. The vessel is propelled by two MAN-B&W 8S80ME-C 9.2 engines delivering 2 × 29,680 kW, which gives the vessel a maximum speed of 23 knots. She was named after Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller, the CEO of Maersk between 1965 and 1993 and passed away in April 2012 at the age of 98. The Triple E class sets new standards in the container industry, not just for size, but also of energy efficiency and environmental performance. With unique design features for slower speeds and maximum efficiency, this vessel will emit 50% less CO2 per container moved than the current average on the Asia-Europe route. Maersk Line has ordered a total of 20 of these vessels, which will be phased in gradually over the next couple of years on the existing route between Asia and Northern Europe (AE10). The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller arrived this afternoon at the APM terminal, Rotterdam.

MAERSK STEPNICA

Maersk StepnicaThe Maersk Stepnica (IMO: 9352004, Port of Registry: Copenhagen, Denmark) was the first in a series of five 8400 TEU container vessels. She was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. in South Korea and was delivered in 2008. She is propelled by a 68,640 kW 12K98ME MK7 HHI engine. The vessel has a teu capacity of 8,400, is 334 metres long and 43 metres wide. These dimensions give the vessel a deadweight tonnage of 108,000.

The Maersk Stepnica arrived this morning at the APM terminal, Rotterdam from Felixstowe. The Maersk Stepnica is currently deployed on Maersk's AE-1 loop. She is scheduled to depart Rotterdam this evening with destination Zeebrugge.

CHARLOTTE MAERSK

Charlotte MaerskThe Charlotte Maersk (IMO: 9245744, Port of Registry: Fredericia, Denmark) is a S-class containervessel owned by A.P. Moller and built in 2002 by Odense Shipyards, Denmark. She is currently deployed on the AE-1 loop between the Far East (Japan / China) and Europe. The vessel is 347 metres long, 43 metres wide, has a deadweight tonnage of almost 110,000 and a teu capacity of 6,600.

The Charlotte Maersk is expected to arrive at the Port of Rotterdam later tonight where she will take berth at the APM Terminal. Her last port of call was Zeebrugge. She is scheduled to depart in 24 hours with destination Bremerhaven.

The vessel is 397 meters long, 56 meters wide, has a depth of 30 meters and a deadweight of 156,907 tons. Amazingly, all this size and capacity requires a crew of only 13. The specially designed Wärtsilä diesel engine delivers 80,000 kW. A waste heat recovery system is installed to optimise the use of the energy produced, so that the engine can deliver up to 90,000 kW. The vessels in this series will also establish new standards for safety and environmental responsibility. Environmentally-safe silicone paint, for example, is used on the hull, below the water line, reducing water resistance, and thereby fuel consumption, by 1,200 tons per year. The Edith Maersk will arrive later this afternoon at the APM terminal, Rotterdam from the Suez Canal terminal. She will stay in port for about 24 hours. She will return within about 2 weeks to Rotterdam on her second call in the loop.

ELLY MAERSK

The Elly Maersk (IMO: 9321536, Port of Registry: Svendborg, Denmark) is, together with her sisters (amongst which are the 'Emma Maersk' and 'Evelyn Maersk'), the largest containership ever with a total teu capacity 11,000 teu (of which 1,000 forty foot reefer containers) according to the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. This capacity is possible by stacking the containers in 22 rows wide. The vessel is 397 meters long, 56 meters wide, has a depth of 30 meters and a deadweight of 156,907 tons. Amazingly, all this size and capacity requires a crew of only 13. The specially designed Wärtsilä diesel engine delivers 80,000 kW. The vessels in this series will also establish new standards for safety and environmental responsibility. The ship was already the sixth in line of Maersk PS-class vessels. Currently there are eight PS-class vessels of which the most recent is the 'Eugen Maersk'. The new MSC vessels, amongst which is the MSC Danit are smaller in dimensions, but can transport more TEU than the PS-class vessels of Maersk, due to her smart design (which doesn't give her the best looks).

The Elly Maersk is scheduled to arrived later tonight at the APM terminal, Rotterdam from the port of Tanjung Pelepas. She will stay there for about 36 hours. The vessel will then set sail for Bremerhaven on the APM AE10 line. She will return within about 7 weeks to Rotterdam.
