AKADEMIK SERGEY VAVILOV
The Akademik Sergey Vavilov (IMO: 8507729, Port of Registry: Kaliningrad, Russia) is a research vessel. The vessel was delivered on February 12, 1988 in Rauma, Finland for the Soviet Union and started operations as a research vessel of Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the USSR Academy of Science (Russian Academy of Science since 1991) in the USSR on March 20, 1989 and prior to November 7, 1999 completed five research cruises into Norwegian Sea, North Atlantic Ocean and South Atlantic Ocean. Nowadays the vessel serves as a cruise ship specializing in Polar cruises and is widely recognized as the best expedition-style cruise vessel operating in Polar waters. She's a well-equipped, ice-rated ship capable of carrying up to 118 passengers, although normally carrying no more than 110 for extra comfort. The Akademik Sergey Vavilov is 117 meters long and 18 meters wide with a gross tonnage of 6,231. She is powered by two diesel engine made by Russkiy Diesel Firm. Each main engine delivers 7000 bhp at 520rpm which gives the vessel an operating speed of 13.5 knots.

The Akademik Sergey Vavilov arrived this morning from Reykjavik at the Waalhaven where her sistership Akademik Ioffe already arrived yesterday.
