The CSCL Mars (IMO: 9467287, Port of Registry: Hong Kong) is the fourth of eight container carriers of its kind ordered by CSCL. The vessel is 366 meters long, 51 meters wide and has a teu capacity of 14,000. She was delivered in october 2011 by Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries, Korea and is propelled by a 72,000 KW HSD Engine. She is deployed on China Shipping's AEX-7 loop connecting Asia and Europe. Some of the Mars's sisters are: CSCL Star, CSCL Jupiter and CSCL Venus. The CMA CGM Libra (IMO: 9399193, Port of Registry: London) is one of the more recent additions to the fleet of CMA CGM. The vessel was built at Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered early 2009. She has a maximum teu capacity of 11,356 TEU and 800 connections for reefers. The CMA CGM Libra is 363 meters long and 45 meters wide and has a deadweight tonnage of 131,000. According to CMA CGM the vessel uses 6% less fuel than comparable ships. The CMA CGM Libra is propelled by a MAN B&W main engine with an output of 72,240 kilowatts, making it possible for the ship to travel at a service speed approaching 25 knots. Today's Ship of the Day is the CMA CGM Magellan (IMO: 9454424, Port of Registry: London). The Magellan is currently the largest vessel in CMA CGM's fleet with a maximum teu capacity of 13,344. The vessel is 365 meters long and 51 meters wide. She was built in 2009 by Daewoo Heavy Industries, Korea. The vessel's design is comparable to the recently built MSC vessels (such as: MSC Beatrice) with the superstructure located midships. One can argue about the looks of this vessel, however the design ensures for better stability and lower trim for higher speed, when the ship is fully loaded. The Magellan will have seven sisterships, amongst which are the CMA CGM Amerigo Vespucci and CMA CGM Corte Real which have also been recently delivered. She is deployed in CMA CGM's FAL1 loop connecting China and North-Western Europe. Heavy-lift vessel Stanislav Yudin (IMO: 8219463, Port of Registry: Limassol, Cyprus) is a self-propelled crane vessel. The vessel was built in 1985 and is featured by a 2500-mt fully revolving Gusto crane with a maximum lifting height above water level of 78 meters, 2500 m2 of free deck space, accomodation for 143 perseons and a high transit speed of 12 knots. The Stanislav Yudin is propelled by three Wartsila engines with a combined power of 4,095 kW. She is operated by Seaway Heavy lifting, The Netherlands.

![]() | Today's SotD is a well-known vessel in the port of Rotterdam. The three masted schooner Eendracht (IMO: 8814275, Port of Registry: Rotterdam) is used to get anyone, especially young people, acquainted with the adventure of sailing at sea. The vessel was built in 1989 by Damen Shipyards, Gorinchem, is 59 metres long, 12 metres wide, has a maximum sail area of 1,206 m2 and a mast height of 41.7 metres. The vessel has a crew of 13 and a passenger capacity of 40 for trips of more than one day. She has 15 two-person cabins, 6 four-person cabins and one single person cabin. The Eendracht will return this afternoon to her homeport Rotterdam after 5 months travelling. During this voyage the vessel visited several ports in the Caribbean, such as Martinique, Curaçao and Sint Maarten. After a short stop at Falmouth the Eendracht will arrive this afternoon at Rotterdam, where she will berth at the Holland Amerikakade. More info can be found at the website of the Eendracht. |
