SETAGAWA

Today's Ship of the Day is the very large crude carrier (VLCC) Setagawa (IMO: 9391763, Port of Registry: Tokyo). The Setagawa has an overall length of 333 meters, is 60 meters wide and has a maximum draught of 20.5 meters. These dimensions give the vessel a maximum cargo capacity of 349,750 m3. The vessel was delivered in december 2009 by IHI Marine Shipyard, Japan to her owner Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha. She is managed by K Line ship management.

The Setagawa is scheduled to arrive this afternoon at Rotterdam with the last port of call at Sidi Kerir Terminal, Egypt. The vessel will take berth at the MOT Terminal, Rotterdam.

CSCL MARS

The CSCL Mars (IMO: 9467287, Port of Registry: Hong Kong) is the fourth of eight container carriers of its kind ordered by CSCL. The vessel is 366 meters long, 51 meters wide and has a teu capacity of 14,000. She was delivered in october 2011 by Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries, Korea and is propelled by a 72,000 KW HSD Engine. She is deployed on China Shipping's AEX-7 loop connecting Asia and Europe. Some of the Mars's sisters are: CSCL Star, CSCL Jupiter and CSCL Venus. The CSCL Mars is scheduled to arrive this afternoon at the Port of Rotterdam from Le Havre. She will take berth at the ECT Delta Terminal.

CMA CGM LIBRA

The CMA CGM Libra (IMO: 9399193, Port of Registry: London) is one of the more recent additions to the fleet of CMA CGM. The vessel was built at Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered early 2009. She has a maximum teu capacity of 11,356 TEU and 800 connections for reefers. The CMA CGM Libra is 363 meters long and 45 meters wide and has a deadweight tonnage of 131,000. According to CMA CGM the vessel uses 6% less fuel than comparable ships. The CMA CGM Libra is propelled by a MAN B&W main engine with an output of 72,240 kilowatts, making it possible for the ship to travel at a service speed approaching 25 knots. CMA CGM has deployed the vessel in her FAL1 loop between Asia and Europe.

CMA CGM MAGELLAN

Today's Ship of the Day is the CMA CGM Magellan (IMO: 9454424, Port of Registry: London). The Magellan is currently the largest vessel in CMA CGM's fleet with a maximum teu capacity of 13,344. The vessel is 365 meters long and 51 meters wide. She was built in 2009 by Daewoo Heavy Industries, Korea. The vessel's design is comparable to the recently built MSC vessels (such as: MSC Beatrice) with the superstructure located midships. One can argue about the looks of this vessel, however the design ensures for better stability and lower trim for higher speed, when the ship is fully loaded. The Magellan will have seven sisterships, amongst which are the CMA CGM Amerigo Vespucci and CMA CGM Corte Real which have also been recently delivered. She is deployed in CMA CGM's FAL1 loop connecting China and North-Western Europe. RYNDAM

Holland America Line's cruise ship Ryndam (IMO: 8919269, Port of Registry: Rotterdam) has been enhanced in 2004 and offers "an onboard experience defined by spacious comfort, and the latest Signature of Excellence features and amenities". Recent enhancements include remodeled public spaces, updated lounges and an exciting new entertainment destination called Mix featuring three distinctly themed bars. The Ryndam is 220 meters long and 31 meters wide and offers accomodation to 1,260 passengers and 580 crew members. She was built in 1994 at Fincantieri shipyard, Venice. The Ryndam arrived this morning at the Holland Amerikakade, Rotterdam. She is scheduled to leave the port of Rotterdam at 17.00 this afternoon for a cruise to Portugal, Spain and the Canary Islands.

EBBA MAERSK

The Ebba Maersk (IMO: 9321524, Port of Registry: Copenhagen, Denmark) is the fifth in line of Maersk's PS-class. Together with her sisters (amongst which are the 'Emma Maersk' and 'Evelyn Maersk') she was the largest containership ever in dimensions with a total teu capacity 11,000 teu (of which 1,000 forty foot reefer containers) according to the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. A total capacity of 13,500 teu is also possible when containers are not fully loaded. This capacity is possible by stacking the containers in 22 rows wide. Maersk calculates the teu capacity with loaded containers. The vessel is 397 meters long, 56 meters wide, has a depth of 30 meters and a deadweight of 156,907 tons. Amazingly, all this size and capacity requires a crew of only 13. The specially designed Wärtsilä diesel engine delivers 80,000 kW. A waste heat recovery system is installed to optimise the use of the energy produced, so that the engine can deliver up to 90,000 kW. The vessels in this series have also established new standards for safety and environmental responsibility. Environmentally-safe silicone paint, for example, is used on the hull, below the water line, reducing water resistance, and thereby fuel consumption, by 1,200 tons per year. The ship was launched at Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd in May 2007. The new design in containerships with the superstructure midships, amongst which is the MSC Danit are smaller in dimensions, but can transport more TEU than the PS-class vessels of Maersk, due to their smart design (which doesn't give the vessels the best looks).

The Ebba Maersk will arrive this afternoon at the APM terminal, Rotterdam from Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia. Tomorrow, the vessel will set sail for Bremerhaven on the APM AE1 line. She will return within about 2 weeks to Rotterdam on her return call this loop.

STANISLAV YUDIN

Heavy-lift vessel Stanislav Yudin (IMO: 8219463, Port of Registry: Limassol, Cyprus) is a self-propelled crane vessel. The vessel was built in 1985 and is featured by a 2500-mt fully revolving Gusto crane with a maximum lifting height above water level of 78 meters, 2500 m2 of free deck space, accomodation for 143 perseons and a high transit speed of 12 knots. The Stanislav Yudin is propelled by three Wartsila engines with a combined power of 4,095 kW. She is operated by Seaway Heavy lifting, The Netherlands. GSP SATURN

The GSP Saturn (IMO: 8767666, Port of Registry: Panama) is a self elevating drilling unit. The rig is 52 meters long and 49 meters wide and is capable of operating in water depths up to 91 meters. She has a maximum drill depth of 30,000 feet. She is powered by 5 Caterpillar 3512 DITA engines delivering a total power of 8,430 HP. The GSP Saturn was built in 1985 at Galatzi Shipyard, Romania and rebuilt in 2009 into her current form. The vessel is owned by Grup Servicii Petroliere, Romania.

The GSP Saturn is scheduled to arrive this afternoon at the Calandkanaal on board the heavy load vessel Tai An Kou.

EENDRACHT

Today's SotD is a well-known vessel in the port of Rotterdam. The three masted schooner Eendracht (IMO: 8814275, Port of Registry: Rotterdam) is used to get anyone, especially young people, acquainted with the adventure of sailing at sea. The vessel was built in 1989 by Damen Shipyards, Gorinchem, is 59 metres long, 12 metres wide, has a maximum sail area of 1,206 m2 and a mast height of 41.7 metres. The vessel has a crew of 13 and a passenger capacity of 40 for trips of more than one day. She has 15 two-person cabins, 6 four-person cabins and one single person cabin. The Eendracht will return this afternoon to her homeport Rotterdam after 5 months travelling. During this voyage the vessel visited several ports in the Caribbean, such as Martinique, Curaçao and Sint Maarten. After a short stop at Falmouth the Eendracht will arrive this afternoon at Rotterdam, where she will berth at the Holland Amerikakade. More info can be found at the website of the Eendracht.

AUDACIA

Today's SotD is the pipelayer Audacia (IMO: 9305130, Port of Registry: Panama). The length of the Audacia including the stinger is 335 metres. She is 32 metres wide, is suited for installation of pipelines up to a diameter of 60 inches including coating, and is intended for operation in all water depths. The Audacia provides accomodation to a crew of 240. She was converted by Keppel Verolme, Rotterdam from a bulkcarrier to a an advanced offshore vessel in 2008. The vessel is owned by the Swiss-based Allseas Group S.A. which is one of the major offshore pipelay and subsea construction companies in the world.

The Audacia arrived last night at the Offshore Location Calandkanaal.
