CMA CGM AMERIGO VESPUCCI

Today's Ship of the Day is the CMA CGM Amerigo Vespucci (IMO: 9454395, Port of Registry: Marseille, France). The Amerigo Vespucci is currently the largest vessel in CMA CGM's fleet with a maximum teu capacity of 13,344. The vessel is 365 meters long and 51 meters wide. She was built in 2009 by Daewoo Heavy Industries, Korea. The vessel's design is comparable to the recently built MSC vessels (such as: MSC Beatrice) with the superstructure located midships. One can argue about the looks of this vessel, however the design ensures for better stability and lower trim for higher speed, when the ship is fully loaded. In compliance with CMA CGM’s environmental policy and like all new vessels of this type ordered by the Group, the CMA CGM Amerigo Vespucci is equipped with a combination of innovative environmental features, including:

- An electronically controlled engine, reducing oil and fuel consumption thus enabling the vessel to be operated at eco-speed,
- Double-hull protected bunker tanks, in compliance with the MARPOL 12A regulation which will come into effect in August 2010
- The Fast Oil Recovery System, which enables bunkers to be rapidly recovered at any time, hence significantly limiting the environmental consequences should there be an incident at sea.

The Amerigo Vespucci will have seven sisterships, amongst which are the CMA CGM Christoph Colomb and CMA CGM Corte Real which have also been recently delivered. She is deployed in CMA CGM's FAL5 loop connecting China and North-Western Europe.

The CMA CGM Amerigo Vespucci is scheduled to arrive later this afternoon at the APM Terminal, Rotterdam with the last port of call at Hamburg.

CSCL LE HAVRE

The CSCL Le Havre (IMO: 9307243, Port of Registry: Limassol, Cyprus) is a 336 metres long, 46 metres wide container ship with a deadweight tonnage of 102,200. She has a teu capacity of 9,580 and 700 reefers. The CSCL Le Havre is propelled by a 93,120 BHP MAN B&W engine, which gives the vessel a maximum speed of 24.7 kts. She was built in 2006 by Samsung Heavy Industries, Korea, is managed by Danaos Shipping Co., Greece and is operated by Allocean Maritime, London.

The CSCL Le Havre is scheduled to arrive later tonight at the ECT Delta terminal, Rotterdam with the last port of call at Le Havre.

EVELYN MAERSK

The Evelyn Maersk (IMO: 9321512, Port of Registry: Copanhagen, Denmark) is, together with her sisters (amongst which are the 'Emma Maersk' and 'Eleonora Maersk'), the largest containership ever with a total teu capacity 11,000 teu (of which 1,000 forty foot reefer containers) according to the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. Rumours are that a total capacity of 13,500 teu is also possible. This capacity is possible by stacking the containers in 22 rows wide. The vessel is 397 meters long, 56 meters wide, has a depth of 30 meters and a deadweight of 156,907 tons. Amazingly, all this size and capacity requires a crew of only 13. The specially designed Wärtsilä diesel engine delivers 80,000 kW. A waste heat recovery system is installed to optimise the use of the energy produced, so that the engine can deliver up to 90,000 kW. The vessels in this series will also establish new standards for safety and environmental responsibility. Environmentally-safe silicone paint, for example, is used on the hull, below the water line, reducing water resistance, and thereby fuel consumption, by 1,200 tons per year. The ship was launched at Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd on March 3rd 2007.

The Evelyn Maersk is scheduled to arrive later tonight at the APM terminal, Rotterdam from the port of Tanger Med. She will stay in port for about 36 hours. The vessel will then set sail for Bremerhaven on the APM AE1 line. She will return within about 7 weeks to Rotterdam.

CMA CGM ANDROMEDA

The CMA CGM Andromeda (IMO: 9410727, Port of Registry: London) is one of the more recent additions to the fleet of CMA CGM. The vessel was built at Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered early 2009. She has a maximum teu capacity of 11,356 TEU and 800 connections for reefers. The CMA CGM Andromeda is 363 meters long and 45 meters wide and has a deadweight tonnage of 128,550. According to CMA CGM the vessel uses 6% less fuel than comparable ships. The CMA CGM Andromeda is propelled by a MAN B&W main engine with an output of 72,240 kilowatts, making it possible for the ship to travel at a service speed approaching 25 knots. CMA CGM has deployed the vessel in her FAL1 loop between Asia and Europe.

The CMA CGM Andromeda arrived this morning from Hamburg at the ECT Delta Terminal. She will depart within 24 hours.

SUBHADRA

The Subhadra (IMO: 9396593, Port of Registry: Mumbai, India) is a Supply Vessel/Tug of 78 meters long, 17.2 meters wide and a maximum draught of almost 7 meters. The vessel was built in 2008 at Kleven Vaerft, Norway. The Subhadra is propelled by a Rolls Royce diesel engine and is equipped with one bow thruster and two stern thrusters of 882 KW each which gives the vessel a bollard pull of 188 tons. She is operated by Varun Shipping Company, India. The Subhadra arrived this morning at the Calandkanaal, Rotterdam. She will leave within a few days, with the Heerema's crane ship Thialf on tow. MOL CREATION

Today's Ship of the Day is the 8,100 TEU containership MOL Creation (IMO: 9321237, Port of Registry: Nassau, Bahama's). As part of MOL's continuing focus on vessel safety and environmental impact, the new ship has been outfitted with the latest technologies impacting those areas of performance. The MOL Creation is the first containership fabricated with high tensile E Grade steel (YP460MPa → 47 kgf/mm2) to ensure hull integrity. The ship is equipped with a Mitsubishi-Wartsila RT-flex96C engine which is designed to electronically maintain optimal fuel injection performance at all engine speeds. This 11 cylinder main engine is designed to reduce fuel consumption and to control NOx and soot (PM) exhaust effectively while operating at a high service speed of 25.25 knots/hour. (Source: MOL). The vessel has a deadweight of 89,370 tons, an overall length of 316 meters, is almost 46 meters wide and has a draught of approximately 14.5 meters. She was built in 2007 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Co., Ltd., Nagasaki Shipyard, Japan. The MOL Creation is deployed on Mitsui's EU4 loop.

NOBLE SCOTT MARKS

The Noble Scott Marks (IMO: 9521057, Port of Registry: Monrovia, Liberia) is a jackup rig operated by Noble Corporation. The rig is 70 x 76 meters in dimension and is able to operate in water depths up to 400 feet with legs of 546 feet. She can drill up to 30,000 ft. The rig was built in 2009 at Dalian Shipyard, Dalian China and was deployed in the North Sea for the last year.

The Noble Scott Marks is expected to arrive later this afternoon at the Calandkanaal, Rotterdam accompanied by the tugs Boulder, Tempest and Thorax. She will depart on the 24th of January on board the semi-submersible vessel Osprey with destination Oman.

CMA CGM LIBRA

The CMA CGM Libra (IMO: 9399193, Port of Registry: London) is one of the more recent additions to the fleet of CMA CGM. The vessel was built at Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered early 2009. She has a maximum teu capacity of 11,356 TEU and 800 connections for reefers. The CMA CGM Libra is 363 meters long and 45 meters wide and has a deadweight tonnage of 131,000. According to CMA CGM the vessel uses 6% less fuel than comparable ships. The CMA CGM Libra is propelled by a MAN B&W main engine with an output of 72,240 kilowatts, making it possible for the ship to travel at a service speed approaching 25 knots. CMA CGM has deployed the vessel in her FAL1 loop between Asia and Europe.

MSC DANIT

Today's ship of the day is the recently delivered MSC Danit (IMO: 9404649, Port of Registry: Panama). This container vessel is 365 meters long and 51 meters wide. Due to her design with the superstructure midships, she is capable of transporting about 14,000 TEU, more than Maersk PS-class (amongst which is the Emma Maersk). One can argue about the looks of this vessel, however the design ensures for better stability and lower trim for higher speed, when the ship is fully loaded. The main engine of the container ship is a MAN B&W 12K98MC-C with full output power of 72,240 kW. This power is enough for the ship to reach maximum speed of 25 knots. The MSC Danit is operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company on their Far-East to Europe loop.

The MSC Danit will arrive later tonight at the ECT Delta terminal, Rotterdam from Felixstowe and will depart within 24 hours.

EVA N

Today's SotD is the Eva N (IMO: 9127150, Ex. Name: Berge Nord, Port of Registry: Monrovia, Liberia) . She is currently owned by Neu Seeschiffahrt, Germany. The Eva N has a deadweight tonnage of 218,000, a draught of almost 19 meters and has seven holds and hatches. The ship was built in 1997 by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea. This 305 meters long, 53 meters wide bulk carrier is the biggest ship to enter the Arctic sea. Other vessels owned by Neu Seeschiffahrt and visiting Rotterdam regularly are: Faith N, Alfred N and Waterman N.

The Eva N will arrived later tonight at the EECV bulk terminal, Rotterdam from Seven Islands, Canada carrying iron ore.

CMA CGM THALASSA

The CMA CGM Thalassa (IMO: 9356294, Port of Registry: Limassol, Cyprus) is a 346 meters long, 43 meters wide containership built at the end of 2008 and delivered to the ship-operator on 30th December 2008 by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Ltd, South Korea. She is one of the largest ships in this sector of maritime transport with her deadweight of over 130,000 tons and a teu capacity of 10,960. The vessel is propelled by a Man B&W 12K98ME-C engine delivering 72,264 kW, which is enough for the vessel to reach maximum speed of 24.7 knots.

The is scheduled to arrive later tonight at the ECT Delta Terminal from Hamburg and will have an expected portstay of about 36 hours.

CMA CGM NORMA

The CMA CGM Norma (IMO: 9299812, Port of Registry: Marseille) is an in 2006, by Hyundai Heavy Industries built, Post-Panamax container vessel, capable of transporting 9415 teu. She is 350 metres long, almost 43 metres wide, has a maximum draught of about 14.5 metres and a deadweight tonnage of 107,200. The CMA CGM Norma was the first of eight super mega container vessels deployed in the new European (FAL2) service jointly operated by CMA CGM and China Shipping. Her sisters are the CMA CGM Rigoletto, CMA CGM Medea and CMA CGM Fidelio.

The CMA CGM Norma arrived last night at the ECT Delta Terminal, Rotterdam with the last port of call at Le Havre. She is scheduled to depart within 36 hours.
