Today's Ship of the Day is the well-known Orange Star (IMO: 7342976, Port of registry: Monrovia, Liberia), which visits the Port of Rotterdam almost monthly for a very long time. The Orange Star was built in 1975 as 'Andalucia Star' by Smith's Dock Co. Ltd, Middlesbrough. The vessel was initially designed as a refrigerated fruit carrier, primarily for bananas being fitted with side (banana) doors and air change fans, for loading in Central American ports. She was converted into a refrigerated orange juice carrier at Bremer Vulkan's in 1986. She is used to transport orange juice from Santos to Europe. The vessel is 155.81 meters long, 21.49 meters wide and has a deadweight tonnage of 12,320. She is currently operated by Atlanship S.A., La Tour-de-Peilz, Suisse in a fleet of several juice carriers. The Orange Star is scheduled to arrive this afternoon at the Continental Juice terminal, Rotterdam where she will be unloading for about 4 days. | Source: Shipspotting.com Copyright: Willem Oldenburg |
