FJORD

FjordToday we have the recently converted vessel Fjord (IMO: 8636740, Port of Registry: Rotterdam) featuring as the Ship of the Day. The Fjord is a 159 metres long, 45.5 metres wide semi-submersible heavy transport vessel equipped with a ballast system with a total capacity of 7000m3 /hr. The ballast system is remotely controlled from a control room. The vessel is equipped with two independent remote sounding systems with interactive loading computers. The Fjord provides accomodation to a total crew of 33 persons. She is propelled by a Wärtsilä Vasa 8L32 providing a power of 3 x 3,840 kW. The Fjord has a free deck space of 132 by 45.5 metres and a deckload of 25 t/m2. She can be submerged to a maximum of 11 meters above deck.

The Fjord arrived this morning at the Maasvlakte Offshore Put, Rotterdam loaded with the former icebreaker Ice Maiden I which was loaded onto the vessel three weeks ago in Pascagoula, Mississipi, USA. The Ice Maiden I will be converted into a DP3 flotel unit capable of accomodating about 400 persons for her current owners C&M Marine Services, Aberdeen. She will be the only vessel of this type to be fully ice-classed and will be capable of operating in temperatures of -40 C.
