TRANSSHELF

The Transshelf is a semi-submersible heavy transport carrier owned by the Dutch company Dockwise that is specialised in heavy transports. The submersible deck space of the Transshelf has a size of 40 x 132 meters. The Transshelf is 173 meters long, 40 meters wide and has a standard draught of 8.8 meters when sailing and a draught of 21 meters when submerged. Due to its submersible features the Transshelf is mainly deployed for marine transportation of drilling rigs and offshore platform components. It just completed a project carrying Russian submarines to several yards near Murmansk for dismantling. It was the first time a western company was contracted by the Russian navy to transport their nuclear submarines. The Transshelf arrived this morning at the Waalhaven, Rotterdam.
